The "Deliquescence" series was made on OSB panels with recycled materials: fine concrete, coating, paints and oil pencils ... remains of construction sites from my activity as an interior decorator. A 100% upcycled series.
Between 2019 and 2021, eight paintings were created. All are unique, madein different hues. Four carry a relief thanks to flat areas of fine concrete or cellulosic coating. For the last four, I used polyurethane paint, playing with the rejection reaction between the water-based paint and the solvent-based paint.
The recovered OSB offers a textured support that I particularly like to work with to exploit its irregular, sometimes uneven relief.
It brings substance and roughness to the bottom. Several superimposed solid colors make it possible to bring out the imperfections and give depth.
This series plays on contrasts in the treatment of the upper and lower parts of the painting. The textured and palpable effect at the top contrasts with a smooth and receding finish at the bottom.
The rounded, closed, well-anchored shapes contrast with the linear, slippery, even liquid aspect of the lower part. The Deliquescence. The form loses its consistency, disintegrates, flows and recalls the inconstancy of things. It is a manifestation of opposites which oppose each other without breaking the unity or the harmony of the whole.
Finishing touches:
The paintings are protected by a natural resin. They have been carefully framed and each frame painted in coherence with the work it carries... With the exception of "Icy brown deliquescence" which did not lend itself to the exercise of supervision. Its outline has been coated and painted for a proper finish. They are ready to hang thanks to an insert system on the back of the painting.
The ultimate touch of pampering, the paintings have been patinated with a natural wax which gives them a silky finish.
